Synopsis
I am a sociopath.
I know this because I diagnosed myself.
I have a PhD in Clinical Psychology from a very prestigious university.
I am charming, attractive, and you probably want to sleep with me.
I take what I want, when I want, and I enjoy picking the most tragic of all my patients to experiment with.
I have no remorse, I am unrelenting in my pursuit of tragedy, and I am about to meet my match.
Her name is not important, I am only allowed to call her Mistress. She is a femme fatale, a patient, and now an obsession.
She will destroy me, I will do anything to get inside of her.
I can already feel her inside of me.
**Trigger
warning. This novel contains situations of perversity and dubious
consent. It is not a love story, but more of a journey through a few
short days in the life of a madman. What you see is not always what you
get, reality is altered through his eyes and sometimes there is no
happily ever after.
My Review
Did that just happen? Were the words that were written and seen processed correctly in my mind as I read the last sentence of the novel Therapist by Jaden Wilkes? I knew before I started that this read would be a challenge and would toss some of my values and beliefs into a categorical mind storm. However, I was not expecting any of what I experienced while reading about the diabolical, twisted, and just plain ole everyday crazy as a Bessie bug, Dr. Alexandre Dane.
Dr. Dane had it going on, he had money, described as being smoking hot, smart and to top it all off, he had a British accent that made all of the wicked, sick, and twisted things he said and and did sound oh so right. This man had stamina and charm and the tendencies of a sociopath that made parts of the book nearly painful to read. Like there were parts of this book where I was talking back to my inanimate reader and thinking somebody needs to do something to stop this man.
Although the novel seemed to be all about Dr. Dane and all of his shenanigans, there were some interesting supporting characters that seemed a little too engrossed in the mad mad world of Dr. Dane. They were quite peculiar because they would almost seem to just pop-up and the way Alexandre felt about them changed just by the the hour. Sometimes his regard would change for them so suddenly that I needed to go back to see what I missed. His behavior was as erratic as a Sour Patch Kid, one minute he loathes them and the next he can't seem to live without them...her... I mean them...no I meant her...oh well... you get the picture. But there is this one character that magically appears and then disappears always leaving Alexandre with a physical scar to remind him that she "sees" him.
