My Review
That Thing with Eli and Gwen by
J.J. McAvoy, is a multicultural, new adult romance that was just all around
good as it told the tale of two people who had been abandoned by people they
thought/ they would spend the rest of their lives with. Gwen was an eclectic
artistic soul that thought she was about to marry the man of her dreams until
her decided he would take her as a guest to a wedding and leave her there in
exchange for the bride. While at the same time, we find Eli jilted at the altar.
Eli has his life all planned out as a physician and strives to be like his
father, when the woman he has chosen to fill the wife vacancy in his perfectly
designed life runs out of their wedding ceremony into the arms of another.
Heartbroken and distraught
Eli and Gwen try to put their lives back together again, but serendipitously,
their paths continue to cross. With love that has been lost being their common denominator,
these two form an unlikely friendship that teaches them how to be happy and
trust and love again.
I loved this story! I mean
there is no other way to describe how I feel about That Thing with Eli and
Gwen. From the character development to the pace of the story, to the build-up,
to all the highs and the lowest of lows, to the hilariously funny real-life
happenings, I loved every moment of it. I think the best part of it all was
that it wasn’t your typical ending where there is an engagement and they live
happily ever after. However, the ending was perfect for two unique characters
like Eli and Gwen.
Overall, I will give this
book a 5-star rating. It was just all around good to me and I would recommend
that you run on out and read That Thing with Eli and Gwen, by J. J. McAvoy.
